Wildwood Dancing

Just by reading the inside cover: "Five adventurous sisters... Four dark creatures... Three magical gifts... Two forbidden lovers... One enchanted frog... Cross the threshold into Wildwood, and enter a land of magic, daring, betrayal... and true love." I was interested, but had no idea how much i would enjoy Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier. The story focuses on fifteen year old Jenica and her sisters who have been grated access to the Dancing Glade every full moon to dress up in their best dresses and dance in the world of fairies, dwarfs, and other strange yet enchanting creatures. But, when Jenica's father falls ill and is forced to spend the winter away from his five daughters and their home, Piscul Draului, Jenica must do her best to keep everything together. To make matters worse, her  power-hungry  cousin starts taking control of her beloved home and want to destroy the Other Kingdom that he knows nothign about, Tatiana, her older sister, has fallen in love with one of the dangerious and mysterious people who have just arrived in the Dancing Glade and is becoming more and more distant.  The strong characters and trilling plot leaves you guessing until the very end.
I would suggest this book to anyone who enjoyed reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

Golden Compass

Book: In The Golden Compass Lyra's journey take's the reader through an interesting parallel universe where people's souls are outside of their bodies in the shape of animals that show their personality. Lyra is a strong character who follows her heart and cares about others.
Rating: B+
Movie: Dakota Blue Richards did a wonderful job playing Lyra. The movie it was fine although compared with the book the plot was annoyingly flawed. Although it's understandable why certain parts were left out (like the ending), it was disappointing
Rating: C

Little winter break overview

Today's the last day of break and I have decided to start documenting the rest of the school year. Everyone is back in town now that their winter break exploits are over. Other then spending a few days in Chicago my break was filled with reading, learning to solve a rubik's cube, family Christmas parties and a few movies.
